Glyphotext offers a very precise control of the parameters being used for document formatting, thus making it possible to obtain subtly formatted documents for printing or export.
Note: Considering the richness of the configuration options, do not hesitate to try out the effects of the various parameters. It is the best way to familiarize youself with Glyphotext.
You can modify the page setup of a document through the Page Setup dialog. From the main menu, select (Options->Document Page Setup).
For the hieroglyphic text, the following parameters exist:
|Line height||Vertical space used by the quadrats. This corresponds (see figure), to the space used by the glyphs plus the top and bottom line margins (in red).|
|Line spacing||Spacing beetween the lines of hieroglyphs. If you choose to show the lines/columns separator, il will appear vertically centered in the space occupied by the line spacing.|
|Line margins||Space at the top and at the bottom of your line of text, specified as a percentage of the line height.|
|Cartouche margins||Space at the top and at the bottom of the horizontal lines of cartouches, specified as percentage of the line height.|
|Quadrat spacing||Spacing between 2 adjacent quadrats.|
|Glyphs spacing||Spacing (vertical or horizontal) between superimposed or juxtaposed glyphs in a given quadrat.|
This tab allows to define the default fonts to be used in the editing windows (transliteration and translation).
Note that the transliteration and translation texts can always be formatted according to your needs. These options define only the default fonts that will be effective when you create new document sequences.
The Printing tab allows you to choose the document paper size, its orientation (portrait or landscape) as well as page margins.
Its also under this tab that document printing options are specified.
|Print black and white||Use colors (or not) in the printed document. Red hieroglyphs sequences will be underlined instead of red-colored when printing in black and white.|
|Start sections with a new page||When activated, this option will introduce a page break before every section is printed.|
|Start sequences with a new page||When activated, this option will introduce a page break before each sequence is printed. Note that if a sequence is the first of its section, it will be printed on the page where its parent section was started.|
|Print sections titles||Activate this option in order to print the section titles. The font face and size of section titles can be modified by clicking on the Fonts ... button.|
|Print sequence titles||Activate this option in order to print the sequence titles. The font face and size of sequence titles can be modified by clicking on the Fonts ... button.|
|These 3 options control whether the corresponding blocks in each sequence are printed or not. You could for example choose to print only the hieroglyphic text blocks, or only the translation texts blocks of your document.|
|Start transliteration on a new page
Start translation on a new page
|Activate this option in order to insert page break before each block of transliteration or translation text. These options allow the blocks of transliteration and translation text to appear on their own page, separated from the hieroglyphs of their sequence. A sequence would therfore be printed in 3 pages: 1 for the hieroglyphs, 1 of the transliteration text and 1 for the translation text.|
In continuous mode: The document will be printed as follows:
In alternation mode: The document will be printed as follows:
|Spacing||The Spacings... button allows to define spacing before and after each block type that will be printed.|
Glyphotext is installed with factory settings. When creating you first document, these default parameters apply to your text.
Each document keeps its own set of page setting parameters. If you want to change the default settings assigned to all the new documents which you create, press on the Save As Default button after having specified the values you wish to have for your new documents. After confirmation, those page setup parameters will be used for all new documents and will apply to each time you create a document.
If you wish to restore page setup parameters such as defined by Glyphotext itself (the factory settings), press on the Restore... button.
